What is MS Polymer Sealant?

MS Polymer Sealant is also known as” Modified Silicone”. It is an innovative hybrid polymer technology invented by Kaneka Corporation Japan, which overcomes a number of performance issues associated with Silicone and Polyurethane(PU) sealants. It is a new generation of construction sealants developed after polysulfide sealant, silicone sealant, and polyurethane sealant. Because it does not contain formaldehyde, isocyanate, and solvent, it is friendly to the environment and the human body. With outstanding environmental protection characteristics, it is suitable for most building substrates.

MS Polymer Sealant is recommended for sealing of Aluminum Composite Panel(ACP), Concrete Joint, Window Perimeter, Natural Stone, and so on.

Application of MS Polymer Sealant

The Characteristics of MS Polymer Sealant

MS Polymer Sealant does not contain hazardous material and it meets the low VOC regulation SCAQMD rule 1168, a regulation widely adopted by the green building industry. It is superior to the other types of sealant in terms of the following characteristics.

Weathering resistance. MS Polymer Sealant has better weathering and UV resistances than polyurethane(PU) sealant making it more resistant to cracks to give a longer service life with less maintenance hassle.

No Blistering. Polyurethane sealant contains “isocyanate” a chemical that will react with moisture(H2O) and release carbon dioxide(CO2) in the seal and be during curing process. The carbon dioxide molecules will form blisters which affect both esthetic and integrity of sealant joints. MS Polymer Sealant does not contain isocyanate, therefore there will not be any blistering issue.

Damp Substrate Bonding. Without isocyanate, MS Polymer Sealant can also be applied on damp substrates, which is prohibited with polyurethane(PU) sealant. This feature makes sealant applications feasible even after rain giving your project a much-needed flexibility.

No shrinkage. Polyurethane(PU) sealant contains solvent which will evaporate during curing process causing sealant shrinkage and recessed joint. Ms polymer sealing does not contain solvent or water and hence no shrinkage.

Non-staining. Moist silicone sealants contain “silicone oil” which will migrate into adjacent substrates pour onto sealants surface causing oil staining and aesthetic issues on porous substrates like marble or granite. Ms polymer sealant does not contain silicone oil hence there will be no staining caused by silicone oil migration.

Less fluid streaking. As silicone oil and silicone sealant migrates onto its surface it retains more airborne dust. Particles in discrete water run-off channels on vertical or sloped building facades resulting in “fluid streaking” aesthetic issue. There will be minimal fluid streaking on building facades sealed with ms polymer sealant because it simply does not contain silicone oil.

Paintable. Unlike silicone sealant, MS Polymer Sealant is paintable with common water-based paints thus allowing color-matching particularly for exteriors of buildings.

• It is not suitable to be used in places that are continuously immersed in water or places that are wet all year round.
• It is not suitable for all materials that can ooze grease, plasticizers or solvents, such as the surface of oil-impregnated wood.
• When bonding cement and concrete substrates, the substrate must be completely dried and cured for 7 days before construction (primer coating is required).

The main purpose
